Hi, My name is Greer Rivera.

This blog documents my life as a professional photographer, it includes photos from recent shoots, offers helpful tips for your wedding, island info, as well as my personal and travel imagery.

My business is based on St.John, US Virgin Islands where I spend my winters, and Martha's Vineyard where I grew up and still return for summers.

I believe photography should be natural, classic, clean and simple.  Whether photographing weddings, kids, families, or commercial assignments, I create organic editorial imagery with a genuine life-stylistic approach that is full of energy.

More of my work can be viewed by checking out my website: greerrivera.com

Marcy and Derek were married at the end of April, the first of my "spring rush".  I've been looking forward to this wedding since the first time I met Marcy a year ago.  They chose to have the ceremony at Cinnamon Bay and their reception at Asolare.

They chose to see each other before the ceremony and it was a very emotional moment for both of them.

I took this while the guests were eating dinner. It's Cruz Bay harbor and St.Thomas. You can actually see our boat way down there.

I have lots more wedding and portraits to post up here so look for them in the next few days.

Our family/my mom's Rottweiler, Douglas had to be put down today.

He was 11 1/2 years old and will be missed incredibly.  We buried him on my aunt's 5 acre property in Coral Bay overlooking a gorgeous view under a tree next to a very old stone wall... a perfect resting place.

Douglas was a very unusual dog, he preferred green peppers before steak, I once held the two out for him and he grabbed the pepper...then the steak!  He also LOVED anything that smelled good, perfume, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body wash, clothes from the dryer... and hence his love of women.

On numerous occasions when I was in high school, in the morning I would shower, then run downstairs in my towel to get clothes from the dryer... well I never made it very far because Doug would rub up against me (all 115 pounds of him) and knock me to the ground just rubbing his face into my hair while inhaling deeply. Those were happy times.

Here's a photo of Dougie I took at the beach a few months ago, right before we got Lucca.

Before we got Dougie as a puppy he was photographed by the famous Weimaraner photographer, William Wegman.  The photo is too adorable for words but unfortunately I don't have it here to show.

We miss him very very much and will treasure all the photos I have of his life with us.

Earlier this year I was contacted by Michelle Haynes the executive editor for the Bird's Eye View, which is the Cape Air Magazine, for a feature and interview.  Although it was small I was glad to have the exposure.  I love Cape Air because they fly in the Virgin Islands and Martha's Vineyard!

They also chose to use one of my photos from an engagement session, my first cover (of many hopefully :))

There's nothing like seeing your photo on the cover of a magazine for the first time!

Here's one of my photos on the menu page. It's the one all the way to the left.
Cover_blog2.jpg
I got one photo on this page too. It's the middle one on the right.

Here is the two page spread I got with a little article.  If your on this page and want a copy email or call me, I have extras!
Cover_blog4.jpgI've actually only been in 6 or so weddings and I AM NOT engaged...even though this makes it sound like I am. Oh and I'm also in my second year but anyway here is the article.
Cover_blog5.jpg
I was also hired by Cape Air to photograph another island feature, Coconut Coast Studios and the owner Elaine.

I recently did another shoot of DaLivio's Restaurant, in Cruz Bay, for this magazine which should be out shortly.

In a little over a week we are packing up our things bringing our home with us and sailing out of here up north to the little island of Martha's Vineyard, where I'm originally from.  We love the migration we have established and spend every summer there!

We will be sailing our sailboat/home "Basta" our 30ft Charlie Morgan where we will make several stops along the way.  Some of the planned locations on our "cruise" include (in sailing order) Culebra and Vieques (small islands off of Puerto Rico); Old San Juan, Puerto Rico; Samana, Dominican Republic; The Turks and Caicos; The Bahama chain (most islands there), then we will head off shore for 4 days till we get to Beaufort, North Carolina where we will enter the Intracoastal Waterway (aka the "ICW") from there we will follow that up the east coast of the US, where we will stop in Wilmington, NC (to visit friends we know from St.John for a few days), Annapolis, Maryland; The Chesapeake; Cape May; The Outer banks; Washington D.C.; NYC; Long island; Providence, RI; and then finally Martha's Vineyard where the boat will stay till October when we sail it back down!  We know people in most of these places so it should be a great time!

I will be returning to St.John for weddings and portraits between June 18-July 5, then returning to Martha's Vineyard for the whole Summer!

sailingroute_blog.jpg
I will be posting photos and updates along the way whenever we are somewhere with internet service.

I will be taking photos to publish a potential book that Matthew will be writing in!

I get pretty sea sick so I've packed lots of Bonine and might get the sea sickness patch so I can still help sail!

We've been planning this for a few months now and are very excited that it is right around the corner, I just need to get all my work done and train Lucca to go to the bathroom ON the boat after we've just trained her to NEVER go on the boat!

Things could get interesting! :)

Rita and Noah eloped at Caneel Bay! Without ANYBODY knowing! No friends or family accompanying them, just two hearts in love...

These two met at a coffee shop through a mutual friend. Who had been trying to set them up for years! Through those years they were hardly single at the same time and after all that time, they met fatefully in the presence of that mutual friend.

Skip ahead a year later, they have a wonderful baby when Noah decides to treat his sweet girlfriend to a picnic and and make her his sweet fiance!

Noah is a photo producer (he looks at photographer's portfolio's all day!) so I was pleasantly surprised when they chose me to shoot their special elopement!

They were so easy to photograph because they are clearly meant to be and very very in love! Some people don't believe in fate...but I do!

Here's a few (a lot because I couldn't narrow it down any further) of my faves!

The beautiful bouquet.
