Hi, My name is Greer Rivera.
This blog documents my life as a professional photographer, it includes photos from recent shoots, offers helpful tips for your wedding, island info, as well as my personal and travel imagery. My business is based on St.John, US Virgin Islands where I spend my winters, and Martha's Vineyard where I grew up and still return for summers. I believe photography should be natural, classic, clean and simple. Whether photographing weddings, kids, families, or commercial assignments, I create organic editorial imagery with a genuine life-stylistic approach that is full of energy. More of my work can be viewed by checking out my website: greerrivera.com To view images from your session please visit our Client Proofing section. Yesterday afternoon I photographed a very sweet family on Cinnamon Bay. It was super windy but they were troopers and stuck it out with me and Shannon long enough to get these great shots!
These sisters were adorable and reminded me a lot of my sister, Paloma and I when we were little.
The girls had a blast and were probably pooped after running around with me! I know I was!
Meet the Rendon-Hoyt family.

Hannah was a cutie patooty!

She laughed at everything and was all smiles the whole shoot! Pretty incredible for a 15 month old!

I LOVE THIS PHOTO!

This one is pretty cute too!

She absolutely loved the water and did NOT want to get out of it!

Maya is the sweetest big sister.

Daddy's little girls.

Too Funny! Hannah kept making this high pitched squeal, like EEEEEEEECCHCHHCCHCHHCH!!!! haha!

One last one.

I had A LOT of fun and got soaked and sandy! My favorite kind of shoots!
It's kind of impossible to have a bad time when your taking photos of such adorable girls!
Italy in FOUR weeks!
I turned 24 yesterday!
Some would say this is still very young...But I'm just not one of them. I feel SUPER old, like mid twenties old!
I was thinking yesterday, as Matthew and I explored parts of Coral Bay we had never ventured to before, how lucky I am to be where I am, doing exactly what I LOVE to do most in the world.
I thought back over this year, everything I had accomplished and experienced and was for the moment not so sad about being another year older. That didn't last long...But I do know that I am very very grateful for everything my life has been so far and the way my career and life are shaping up to be.
I am honored to be called on to photograph people's most precious times in their lives, and would not be where I am today without all my wonderful clients! Thank you!
Ever since I was little, photography has been a part of me, but more then ever this last year it has become my lifestyle. It is not just a job, it is my LIFE, my cameras are my babies. haha!
I'm fortunate enough to be doing what I love at such a young age, I hope that everyone can be that lucky some day, because I ABSOLUTELY LOVE what I do and could not ask for anything more!
I have LOTS of exciting things planned over the next year, before I turn 25!

Happy Belated Birthday! You have amazing talent for being so young. ;)
(03.30.09 @ 12:02 AM)I've been horribly busy lately! We have six short weeks till we leave for Italy, then back to Martha's Vineyard for the beginning of wedding season there, as well as getting everyone booked up for next year and having my mom on island for my birthday (the big TWO-FOUR in THREE days!!). So, it's been a little CRAZY around here, but in a good way!
This post is extremely overdue due to my very frustrating internet lately. I apologize.
Several years ago on their first date, at a wedding, Maggie and Randy were dancing happily when a woman came up and told them they looked made for each other and asked how long they had been married! I guess that was their first clue that they were meant for each other. To have that much chemistry from the start is not something that should be overlooked and I'm glad that Maggie and Randy noticed it and promised their lives to one another on Francis Bay in front of family and friends. I know they will be very very happy for many many more years.
They had the cutest glasses made for champagne.
Carl Freeman played the steel pan. He's very talented. I will try to find his contact info and put it in the links section.

The Groom, Randy.

It was a day full of emotions. Tears of joy...

and uncontrollable giggles.

Their vows were heartfelt and sincere.

I LOVE this image!

They had a sweet sand ceremony with all their children contributing a different color.
I'll post some images from Wednesday's wedding soon, I just wanted to share some photos that Matthew and I took of each other while shooting together last Wednesday.
As most of you know, Matthew helps me out A LOT. Since I started my business he has been the behind the scenes half of Greer Rivera lifestyle photography. His thoughts and opinions mean the world to me. I've been training him to assist and second shoot with me, which by the way is so much fun. He is so out of his element and I'm so in mine that I definitely get to be the boss during the photo shoots!
He's getting the hang of it pretty quickly (like with everything). He helped me out at the wedding a few days ago, and besides hogging my second camera a bit too much, he was fantastic!
I think I should maybe buy him a tighter belt...

I think he looks so natural holding a camera.

Of course he shot some of me shooting as well...

So Matthew's been helping me out for a while...
In the fall we will be busy enough where he will work with me full time, doing all the extra things around the office I just can't keep up with and don't really have time for, plus I want to be doing what I do best and love the most...SHOOTING!
I think Matthew is definitely the right person to bring into the business. So, everyone who is interested in booking for next year, when you book you'll be supporting Matthew coming into business with me and you will be getting a second shooter at your wedding! That's definitely a plus right?!
Today I'm back to work after calling in "sick" yesterday. I love being my own boss! I haven't had a day off since Vegas (which was still photography related) and thought I deserved some time with Matthew at the beach. We went to Cinnamon and it was AMAZING!
I will be returning the emails from yesterday on Monday first thing, thank you for your patience!
The swell was up but we didn't even think to bring our boards, so we just spent the day body surfing, still a lot of fun!
I'm still trying to catch up from Vegas, so here's some of a portrait I shot of Heidi.
Classic Beauty.

Peace!

Heidi is a funky-awesome-all around GREAT person! Her caring nature is the essence of her personality. She is usually always smiling (unless instructed not to do so by me!) and her happiness is infectious!
