Hi, My name is Greer Rivera.

This blog documents my life as a professional photographer, it includes photos from recent shoots, offers helpful tips for your wedding, island info, as well as my personal and travel imagery.

My business is based on St.John, US Virgin Islands where I spend my winters, and Martha's Vineyard where I grew up and still return for summers.

I believe photography should be natural, classic, clean and simple.  Whether photographing weddings, kids, families, or commercial assignments, I create organic editorial imagery with a genuine life-stylistic approach that is full of energy.

More of my work can be viewed by checking out my website: greerrivera.com

Last weekend I shot Jeremy Garza's premiere of his first movie, Firedog!!

The movie was hilarious and the whole cast were locals from St.John. Jeremy starred in it as well and the lead could not have been played by anyone better. I hope he makes another movie soon and I can not wait until this is released to the public for sale!

Here are a few pics from the premiere at The Tamarind Inn.

I was shooting the stars arriving as they stepped out of the limos.

It was an awesome time and I loved the movie! I can't wait till everyone else sees it, I heard there was going to be a screening this summer up at Pastory Gardens.

This is Michelle Huston from Connecticut and Crystal Goss from Arkansas and of course, me!

Iris* and Huckleberry* are early risers, so it was only natural that they were married at Hawksnest Bay at 8am on Friday morning.

They met at a NYC music club a year ago, Iris was hungry and Huckleberry went out and brought back pizza for the hungry stranger before she went on stage to sing, soon after they began dating.

They were planning on just coming to St.John on vacation when Huckleberry popped the question and turned it into their eloping/honeymoon!

Less then two weeks later they were on the beach vowing to be together forever! Talk about fate, these two are definitely meant for each other!

Get ready, this is a HUMONGOUS post, this was the furthest I could narrow it down of my favorites!

And I still left out ones I really liked.

It was an absolutely beautiful morning at Hawknest!

They were married by Anne Marie Porter, she definitely is "St.John's barefoot officiant"!

Yesterday evening I met Jay and Mayra at Cinnamon Bay, where they were married on Monday, to photograph their honeymoon portrait.

Jay and Mayra met through work and started their romance 2 1/2 years ago. I can tell Jay and Mayra will have a life filled with lots of laughs and undeniable joy!

We met late in the afternoon which made for some great sunset shots, the clouds also finally cleared and it became the perfect setting for their shoot.

Here's a few of the faves!

Jay and Mayra were so cute together, I can tell they are SOOO in love!

Greer,
You rock. The pics so far are awesome. My instincts were so right – you are truly amazing and gifted. I can’t thank you enough. The blog pics are wonderful, can’t wait to see the rest.

After the shoot we went right to the Caravan Gallery and bought Mayra a hook bracelet!

If you ever make it to Charlottesville VA please look us up. Thanks again

Jay

Italy,
I’ve been twice. The first time was a whirl-wind tour to Rome, Sorrento, Florence, Siena, and back to Rome. An exhilarating vacation that left me exhausted! The second time I went to Venice for a week and just kind of lived there. It was wonderful and relaxing – OK I did to a daytrip by rail to Bologna for lunch!

Here are a few thoughts:

Rome
The Borgese Gallery is an amazing place. A party house in the middle of a park turned museum
http://www.galleriaborghese.it/borghese/en/edefault.htm
my favorite sculpture of all time is there:
http://www.galleriaborghese.it/borghese/en/edafne.htm
The Vatican Museum is too much to see in a day – but run around it and do see the sisteen chaple – it is worth the wait in line.
The ruins by the coliseum are magic
You should just sit on the Spanish steps for a while and take it all in.

Florence
Gelato from Vivoli!!! http://www.vivoli.it/vivoli-en.html
Go to see David – in the Uffizi gallery. Many of Michelangelo’s unfinished works are there.
And yes the Medici Gallery – Botticelli’s Birth of Venus and the Three Graces are there. There’s also a great view of the Ponte Vechio from the museum

Venice
Galleria Acadimia – Leonardo’s Vetruvian man lives there when he’s not on the road
Al Canton pizza – litteraly the best I’ve ever had; here’s a review:
http://travel.nytimes.com/travel/guides/europe/italy/venice/restaurant-detail.html?vid=1154654632500
Just get lost! – I cannot tell you how much fun I had just exploring the city.
You gotta use a Traghetto to get across the grand canal. Very cool, here is someone’s link
http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/traghetto.htm
My of my all time favorite (and now Mayra’s too) movie of all time is Bread and Tulips – it was filmed in Venice

Naples
Herculaneum – is another uncovered city – not nearly the size of Pompeii, but very intimate and cool – well worth the side stop

Matthew and I are leaving for Italy via Boston on June 4! We will be in Boston for 2 nights trying to do a little shopping (in the real world) for our big trip. The first week we will be with Matthew's family, the Dana's in Tuscany at a beautiful villa they rented.

I grabbed these photos off of the villa rental website.

Italy%20Villa%202.jpg

I'm sure we'll be relaxing by the pool quite a bit!

Italy%20villa%201.jpg

After Tuscany we're off to Venice, where I hope to go on a gondola ride, then we'll head up to Switzerland to hike and camp for a week, then over to Nice & Monaco, France. After that we're going to head down to the island of Ischia going through Rome to do a little sightseeing. We're staying on Ischia (a small island off the coast of Naples, north of Capri) for a week at an eco resort on the water surrounded by hot springs!

I'm soo ready for this vacation! I know we live in vacation destinations, but its just not the same when your here all the time, I'm really looking forward to this adventure!

Here's a few photos from the place we're staying in Ischia, Italy.

If anyone has any tips or advice on places to visit while we're there I would love to hear them! Leave a comment! We've never been to Italy, although last year we drove all around France and Spain and had a blast!
